Through A Child's Eyes

An exhibition of photographs captured
by the children in Chatham Square, New Haven

A big THANK YOU to all the children, parents, sponsors, supporters and those who attended
the exhibition opening making it a very special experience!

This exhibition represented a small sampling of the many photographs taken by Chatham Square Neighborhood children,
ages 6 – 11, during a six-week summer program sponsored by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. The event
was held on December 20 - 26 at Exposure Gallery of Photography, New Haven.

We’ve all been kids - this art show captured the spirit of a local urban neighborhood through the eyes of the children who live
there. The exhibit is the most recent outgrowth of the ongoing revitalization efforts to improve the perception of and quality of
life in the Chatham Square section of New Haven, CT. Over the past year, Chatham Square residents have been changing
their neighborhood for the better: They have organized a neighborhood association, held several community-wide festivals,
raised money for a traffic calming study, participated in the New Haven Oral History project and organized a
“walk to school day”. They have also worked with The Community Foundation and
Empower New Haven to create incentives for prospective homebuyers.
